FY26 Holiday Schedule
The Texas Legislature sets the number of holidays with pay to be observed each year by state employees. For state agencies other than institutions of higher education, the Legislature sets the detailed schedule (actual dates when holidays will be taken). However, higher education institutions are exempt from this specific schedule but are required to be provided with the same number of days as other state employees. This exemption is to allow the university to set a holiday schedule that is in keeping with academic schedules.
The Texas State University System Chancellor has approved the following holiday schedule for FY26 for TXST:
- Labor Day: September 1, 2025
- Thanksgiving: November 27 - 28, 2025
- Christmas: December 24 - 26, 2025
- Winter Break: December 29 - 31, 2025
- New Year's Day: January 1, 2026
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: January 19, 2026
- Memorial Day: May 25, 2026
- Juneteenth (Emancipation Day): June 19, 2026

FY26 Energy Conservation Days
The university designates Energy Conservation days to improve campus energy efficiency. Per UPPS 04.04.16, Energy Conservation days are not holidays and must be accounted for with an absence type if the employee does not work.
Staff may choose to take time off, work their normal schedule, or request to work remotely (if eligible). The days below have been determined Energy Conservation days for FY26:
- December 22 - 23, 2025
- January 2, 2026
- March 16 - 20, 2026 (Spring Break)

FY25 Holiday Schedule
The Texas State University System Chancellor has approved the following holiday schedule for FY25 for TXST:
- Labor Day: September 2, 2024
- Thanksgiving: November 28 - 29, 2024
- Winter Break: December 24, 2024 - January 1, 2025
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: January 20, 2025
- Memorial Day: May 26, 2025
- Juneteenth (Emancipation Day): June 19, 2025
- Independence Day: July 4, 2025

Designated Essential Offices
The following have been designated as essential offices to remain open with skeleton crews for the energy conservation days. Other offices may be requested by their Vice President to remain open as well.
Regular staff who actually work on an official holiday will be allowed compensatory time off during the twelve-month period following the holiday.

Comp Time Information
Since compensatory time may not be advanced to employees, staff members will need to earn the necessary comp time for the energy conservation days prior to those days. Supervisors are encouraged to provide ample opportunity for those employees observing energy conservation days to earn the comp time in advance. If comp time is not available, an employee must use available vacation or take leave without pay. Further guidance is outlined in UPPS 04.04.16 Overtime and Compensatory Time Policy, Section 5.03.
